This piece represents my identity. I chose to make a shoe as I walk through this life. I made a female shoe to represent identifying as female. I’ve never worn a heeled shoe in my life, so I embroidered a steel toe which is my typical choice of footwear.
Its embroidered, to represent my textile artist life.
The shoe is embellished with an organic structure of a seed pod which represents femininity as well as development/growth, to remind me to grow and develop as a human, with my work and all relationships.
Each cell includes the roles I feel define me both past and current. Roles that I no longer hold are scribbled out, despite not wanting the roles anymore they have developed me into who I am now.

My fingerprint from each finger is placed around the shoe to represent my individuality.
Words given by those that know me are embroidered on the sole which maybe how people see me but it’s my soul/sole that actually makes me.

My silhouette is embroidered over the words. Maple leaves cover the union Jack as I’m now a Canadian citizen.
