I was focusing on how we are changing communication, using abbreviations of phrases and shortening words for text’s and social media…often it seems ‘there are no words’ anymore…

While thinking about the piece and how it could be embroidered, I was seeing snippets of news on social media about the USA President separating children from their parents. I couldn’t bear to watch or read it, it seemed too unbelievable. I’ve used many words to describe the President …and suddenly none of these words seemed adequate anymore.  So what word(s) could describe such inhumane treatment…

…There are no Words….

I have embroidered a vessel with many forms of communication and meanings represented by the many layers of stitching.

Braille and text spells out ‘There are no words’   Morse code flashes and sounds ‘There are no Words’ to communicate an SOS for everyone being inhumanly treated worldwide.

Text is approximately 60 embroidered phrases and words commonly abbreviated for text and social media. Distorted and disappearing, just how I see it in our daily communication

Glimpses of light from the lamp shine through from the disappearing text along the sides to remind us there is light amongst all the darkness.

The braille is embroidered in bright, happy and friendly colours to remind us to communicate this way, either online or in person.
